FREE Forest Therapy Walk (Vergelegen)
The walk is free, but note that Vergelegen entry fees do apply (R10/person).
Join me for a walk in Nature. I'll guide you to consciously connect with what’s around you by awakening your senses and encouraging you to take in Nature at a much slower pace than you're accustomed to. OVERVIEW A Forest Therapy Walk is not the same as Japanese Forest Bathing, though it is inspired by this. Nature/Forest Therapy Walks have been scientifically proven to boost immunity, lower stress, and help your brain to work better. Over and above these physiological benefits, this practice also helps us to cultivate our connection to Nature. A Forest Therapy Walk is not a fitness hike, not a naturalist-led point-and-name tour, and not psychotherapy in a natural setting. It's as simple as walking in a natural environment and consciously connecting with what’s around you. I'll guide you through a series of invitations that aim to awaken your senses, encourage you to take in Nature at a much slower pace than you're probably accustomed to, and enliven a more conscious connection with the inherent healing properties of Nature. PARTICIPATION All is welcome on a Forest Therapy Walk. It is great for all ages (although children under 16 should be accompanied by a parent/guardian). Please do let me know ahead of time if you have any physical or other limitations so that I can be sure to accommodate you. A Forest Therapy Walk is most beneficial when embarked on as an individual (within the group). LOCATION This walk will take place at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. You can enter the gardens using a Botanical Society annual pass, or pay R90 per adult (South African resident) at the gate. The fee for children under 18 years is R30pp and students (with valid student cards) can enter for R50pp. We will meet just inside the Rycroft Gate ("Gate 3" at 46 Klaassens Road Cape Town) from 9h15, and will set off at 9h30 sharp. We will cover an area of little more than a football field, will be alternating between slow walking and sharing in circle, and will finish off with tea and snacks amongst the trees. TIME A walk takes between two and a half and three hours. DOGS Dogs are not allowed in the gardens. If you'd like to experience a Forest Therapy Walk with your dog please switch your booking to that event. These dog-friendly walks have additional considerations - dogs need to be socialised (dog and human friendly), on leads, and bags (for those inevitable poop moments) need to be brought along.
If you cancel your booking more than 10 days before the walk a 10% fee will be deducted, and the remainder refunded. A 50% refund will be given if you cancel between 10 days and 48 hours before the walk unless you rebook (which allows the transfer of the full fee). Cancellation within 48 hours of the walk or if you ‘no show’ no refund or transferrence will be offered. But hey - we live in strange times! If you have Covid-19 symptoms or have tested positive please contact me directly to discuss cancellation or rescheduling.
