A homecoming
Twenty years in the making.
Earthmark didn't begin in a boardroom or a business plan. It began with a needle and some ink, a golden ratio, and a deep conviction that the most enduring things are shaped by principles older than any of us.

Our founder Janéne Steenkamp has spent twenty years working at the intersection of nature, creativity and human behaviour — arriving at Earthmark not by accident, but by logic.

It began with sacred geometry. As a tattoo artist, Janéne designed every piece according to the golden ratio, the flower of life, the geometric principles that nature uses to build everything from nautilus shells to fynbos spirals to the branching of human lungs. She wasn't decorating skin. She was learning to read the underlying code of living systems - and to translate it into something a human body could carry.

That same code runs through everything that followed: Forest Therapy, which teaches the art of deep attention to the living world. Biomimicry, which asks what 3.8 billion years of natural R&D can teach a leadership team. And organisational effectiveness facilitation, which is ultimately about helping human systems work the way nature's systems do - with resilience, interdependence, and the capacity to adapt.

Each discipline a different surface. The same underlying logic running through all of them.

Earthmark is where all of that lands. Not a rebrand or a pivot. A homecoming.

What we bring

The Earthmark practice is built on a body of knowledge that takes years to accumulate and cannot be easily replicated: deep fluency in biomimicry - the practice of learning from and applying nature's strategies to human challenges; certification in Forest Therapy through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy; two decades of facilitation, coaching, and organisational work across some of South Africa's most significant organisations; and an instinct for the golden ratio that runs through everything we design, down to the proportions of our own mark.

We are based in Hout Bay, Cape Town, at the foot of the mountain that is our primary classroom. We hold a deep working knowledge of the Cape Floristic Region - its species, its systems, its seasonal rhythms - that no amount of research can substitute for. This landscape is not a venue we hire. It is a partner we know well.
ii
How we work

Every Earthmark engagement begins with a genuine conversation about what you are trying to solve - not a sales process, but a diagnostic. We need to understand your team, your moment, and your ambition before we can design something worth your time.
From there we build an experience that is specific to you. The mountain provides the conditions. We design the encounter that meets them. Our methodology is structured enough to produce reliable outcomes and flexible enough to follow what the landscape - and your team - actually needs on the day.

We work with leadership teams, individual leaders, and organisations at moments of genuine challenge or genuine opportunity. The fit matters as much to us as it does to you.

The thread

There is a single principle that runs from the tattoo studio to the forest therapy certification to the biomimicry practice to the leadership work happening on Table Mountain today: that nature gets it right, and that we get it more right when we pay attention to nature.

The golden ratio that Janéne first applied to ink on skin is the same ratio that governs the spiral of a protea head, the branching of a restio stem, the proportions of the Earthmark mark itself. This is not coincidence or decoration. It is methodology. It is the belief - tested across twenty years and wildly different disciplines - that when you work with the underlying logic of living systems rather than against it, something becomes possible that wasn't possible before.

That is what Earthmark is for.
